Walmart Put Pregnant Employee on Unpaid Leave After Her Doctor Told Her No Heavy Lifting: Despite clear federal laws barring discrimination against pregnant workers, some corporations still unlawfully treat pregnant employees as if they are second-cl
A pregnant woman, who work at a Walmart in Atlanta, GA was put on unpaid leave after the doctor told her that shouldn;t do any heavy lifting. Whitney Tomlinson, a Walmart employee, was told by her boss that the only way that she would still have a job would be if she applied for unpaid leave. Walmart have come under scrutiny for paying women less than men for doing the same job and the 2nd time for denying women the right compensation for being pregnant when she is advised by a doctor not to do any heavy lifting on the job. Anyway, Tomlinson didn't expect to be treated the way she did at her job nor did Tomlinson could afford applying for unpaid leave. The Pregnancy Discrimination act protects women from discrimination on the workforce for 40 years now. With Abortion being approved by the Supreme Court back in 1973, women have been treated in some workplaces as lower class especially when it comes to deciding to choose life over her job. Some jobs feel that it is easy for pregnant women to have an abortion to help them be able to do thier job.
Walmart has lost my support for that very reason. I can't continue to support a business like Walmart who continues to discriminate like they do against women. Women is being paid $1.35 less than men for doing the same job. A good employer would say "Of Course" if a pregnant woman wanted to apply for paid leave but Walmart continues to be that "road block." Tomlinson's discrimination is happening on Women's History Month at that. I am a big supporter for equal pay for men and women. It wouldn't surprise me if they started a GoFundMe for Whitney Tomlinson for having to go through what her job is putting her through. My 2 Cents.
