Ponderosa
When I was in elementary school I used to get a lot of Perfect Attendance awards to go to Ponderosa. We used to have a Ponderosa in Wilson shopping center in Windsor. I used to enjoy eating their chicken and fries. For dessert I used to have a dessert combo of about 5 chocolate chip cookies and scoops of vanilla ice cream on top. Cookies and ice cream are very delicious!
Roy Rogers
I used to love Roy Rogers fries. I remember we used have a Roy Rogers on Spencer Street in Manchester. Roy Rogers couldn't keep up with Wendy's next door. Roy Rogers was underrated but not every restaurant could stay in business and in Roy Rogers case not everyone could keep up with the competition of more food at really reasonable prices.
Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken
Talkin' 'bout good grub, I used to love Lee's Famous Chicken biscuits. Lee's biscuits were just right. Me and my family used to enjoy eating Lee's when it was around. The last time I remember going to Lee's was when me, my mom, and step-father got some grub there in 1998. Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken used to be in Bloomfield near where Bernie's used to be on Blue Hills Avenue.
What used to be a restaurant called The Pie Plate 😞
I remember when I was a little boy me and my family used to eat at this restaurant many times for dinner. My signature meal that I would order is the chili and cornbread (both used to be large) and for dessert I would order either apple pie a la mode or blueberry pie a la mode. It all depended on what dessert I was in the mode for. Good eats=good times with family. This restaurant (now a car wash) was in Avon.
A.C. Peterson's Farms (Used to be in Bloomfield too)
This restaurant brings back so many memories. I'm a sandwich person, I was back then and I'm still a sandwich person now. Call me old-fashioned, lol. I used to enjoy A.C. Peterson's Farms cheeseburgers and fries and I used to enjoy putting a lot of ketchup on fries! The restaurant used to be in Park Avenue in Downtown Bloomfield but now I learned we have a A.C. Peterson's that is still in West Hartford.
Dairy Queen
We've had so many Dairy Queen restaurants close down that I don't know where the ones that are still around at. Anyway, I could remember a Dairy Queen that me, my mom, and my older brother went to in Wilson in Windsor. That Dairy Queen used to be across from McDonald's in Wilson that also used to be around. My favorite ice cream back then was cherry dipped ice cream and ice cream with sprinkles which was great for kids!
Friendly's
We've had so many Friendly's restaurant's close down. I used to study the children's menu really well when I was a child. I would order the grilled cheese or hamburger and would get their free sundaes that went with the meal. I miss the Friendly's in Bishop Corner's on North Main Street in West Hartford (Next to where Service Merchandise used to be). The last time I remember eating at that Friendly's was with my mom and my older brother (it's for his birthday) in 2000. I miss the Friendly's in Downtown Windsor on Broad Street. When I was a teenager me and my mom used to get coupons for free sundaes and I used to order the chocolate chip cookie dough (strawberry ice cream was my favorite coming up but now chocolate cookie dough is my favorite). I missed the Friendly's in East Hartford on the Manchester line. I remember me, my mom, and my mom's friend from NY went to that Friendly's for breakfast back in 1999. I really enjoyed their blueberry pancakes! The last Friendly's that I remember going to was back in 2005 with my mom, my niece, and nephew on the Silas Deane Highway in Wethersfield. I'm not sure where the Friendly's are in Connecticut now.
